Growth diagram for the Thames Gateway
VISION
Metrotidal integrates new transport infrastructure through a Lower
Thames tunnel with tidal
power and flood defences for green growth to the east of London.
Existing policy initiatives
- Thames Gateway policy (employment, housing, regeneration)
- wider strategic policy (growth, transport, energy)
- spacial plans (Dartford, Lower Thames Crossing, London Gateway, Crossrail)
- freight networks (rail freight bypass, north-south trunk route, ports, mode shift)
- local transport (Crossrail, SERT, fastrack)
- flood defence (TE2100, protection of marshes)
- renewable energy (carbon reduction, green growth)
- Channel Tunnel and TENS network
- dredging of the shipping channel
- pylon removal and utility distribution across the estuary
Ambition:
- green growth to the east of London
- coordinated infrastructure
- relieving congestion on the existing transport system
- minimising environmental impact and land take
- cross funding of private sector investment with public sector guidance
Considerations:
- tunnel vs bridge
- new connectivity models
- carbon neutral development
